yes… but I think you miss the point… depression and elation are just flip sides of the same coin. You need BOTH. The coolness of the latest gadget is directly porportional to the amount of angst you feel in your desire to possess it.
Here is an example.
Lets say there is a new type of egg that comes on the market… it tastes SLIGHTLY better than the old type… do you lose sleep, dreaming about getting a taste of the “cool new egg”? Probably not… because it is not a huge payoff on the positive side.
Embrace the angst!! It is only there due to the awesomeness of the gadget you desire!
Imagine how dull life would be with nothing new to look forward to. Life is all about the journey… not the destination.

I really like this blog entry of yours. I like how you said that geeks need to come to terms with themselves and accept insults. When you talked about geeks ending up living in a family members basement, it made me laugh.

The reason doors don’t generally talk is because it’s too big of a liability. Do you know how many people would lose their jobs, their friends, their marriages, if doors could talk? They see everything! Nobody would go to a hotel with talking doors!

I was surprised to see one of my favorite movies on your list: Sneakers. It is a classic espionage thriller in the mold of the old black and white classic movies. The soundtrack is just awesome. Branford Marsallis played the score by James Horner.
Also on my list is Glory, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Apollo 13, and … uhmm… Blade Runner.

I love the movie Big Fish and I would have to agree on a few of your movie’s but I am not a fan of Star Wars, thats just my oppinion.
